2015 Roundup: Oh What a Year!

You might have seen the ’2015 Best 9′ photos floating around Instagram this past week (you can see ours here). The idea is to post the 9 photos on your instagram that got the most likes in the past year. Seeing everyone else’s photos got us reflecting on how our own 2015 has been so busy and so exciting. When we look back to 2014 it’s crazy to see how much has changed! We wanted to reflect on and celebrate everything that we’ve done in the past 12 months so thought we’d look at our ‘Best 9 of 2015’ on the blog, too. Here’s our very own snapshot of some of our favourite things that have happened in 2015.

  • 1. Running Bestival Workshops
Probably our favourite thing to happen in the whole of 2015 was our Bestival workshops. Who wouldn’t love to spend a week at a festival showing hundreds of people how to tie-dye, lying out in the sun, eating loads of cake, camping with some amazing people and seeing some great music every evening?! It was bonkers.

  1. 2. House of Hackney Quilt
This is the project that we’re most proud of in the past year. We made a quilt for House of Hackney in their gorgeous William Morris collection which was then auctioned for charity – it raised £700 for Crisis. We think it turned out beautifully.

  1. 3. Presenting on Create & Craft TV
This is something we haven’t talked about much on the blog, probably because we’re both a little scared of how we come across on TV! In the past year we’ve started to guest present on Create & Craft TV shows, doing everything from quilting to making bomber jackets. It’s been our first experience of any TV, let alone live TV, but it’s been so much fun and we haven’t sworn on air yet – huzzah!
  1. 4. Launching Our First Products
Probably our biggest achievement of 2015 was the launch for sale of our first two products. They were a long time in the making and it was a big old learning curve but we love love love how the kits have turned out and want to show them off to the whole world. In case you haven’t seen them yet, there’s a Knicker Making Kit and a Cushion Cover Kit and both are up for sale on our shop. We also have a sneaky 20% off with code NEWYEAR20 until Jan 6th to help celebrate the New Year!

  1. 5. Brand New Website
To make our product launch possible we needed an online shop and wanted a new website too. Kim Lawler made all of our web design dreams come true and we love the new site, we hope you do too!

  1. 6. Our Trip to Cornwall
We were both so busy last year that we didn’t really get any holiday so our one trip to Cornwall seemed extra special. It was a sunny late summer and we spent days by the seaside walking the South Coast path and eating cream teas. Oh and we did a lot of knitting.

  1. 7. Bomber Jackets
We went a little bomber jacket crazy in 2015. Between us we made five! These are two of our favourites and are both in House of Hackney Palmeral silk, one black for Hannah and one white for Aaron.

  1. 8. Winning a Business Award
Another thing that we were a little radio silent on the blog about was our business award. Hannah was a student at UCL so we entered one of their competitions for business start-ups and WON! We wrote a business plan, did finance things neither of us really understood and came away with the biggest loan of the whole competition. We’re not really sure how. We’re thinking about doing some business type help posts on the blog, let us know if that’s something you’d find useful!
  • 9. And a Couple of Personal Things
Personally we’ve also had quite a lot to celebrate this year. Hannah finished her Masters and got a Distinction (woop!) and I moved onto a boat. Hannah hasn’t had her graduation yet so look out for a picture of that in the next few months. I’ll also be doing a few boat DIY projects that I’ll be posting on the blog, these cushions have already made the move over. They look so much better than in my old flat!
If 2016 is half as eventful as 2015 has been, we’ll be happy crafters this time next year. We hope you all had brilliant years too, share your roundup posts with us we’d love to see them!
Ps. The featured image was taken my Madalynne – tickets are still available for the Bra-Making workshop of hers we’re hosting!
