About The New Craft House

We are Hannah and Rosie and together we run The New Craft House. This is our space for sharing all of our crafty projects along with a bit of what we get up to and things we love. Our aim is to use old crafting techniques in more modern and stylish projects, as our tagline says – old crafts for the new generation! We’d love to hear from you so comment, give us a tweet or email us at hello@thenewcrafthouse.com

Meet Hannah

Hannah has always enjoyed making and started sewing more 7 over years ago. She’s a bit of flakey crafter and is always getting distracted with new projects. At the moment she is on a mission to make an entirely handmade wardrobe to try and live a little bit more consciously and sustainably.

Meet Rosie

Rosie’s Mum is a big crafter so she grew up surrounded by them! She is better at spending time on slower projects and planning them out. She’s just moved on to a canal boat so is working on projects to turn it into a cosy home.

 The Long Story...

We’ve been friends since going to school together in Germany and have remained close ever since. We lived together at college and visited each other often when we eventually both went to different Universities. After Uni, H lived back in Germany for a while and it was during one of R’s visits that we decided to start our blog. We had both been crafting lots in our spare time and wanted an outlet to share our projects! It was also the perfect way for us to stay in contact whilst living far apart.

We set up The New Craft Society (our previous blog name) in February 2013 with zero knowledge or experience of blogging, we learned everything as we went along. Our blog grew far more than we dreamed possible though and less than a year after we started we WON the Cosmopolitan Magazine Best Craft Blog award!

Around the same time as winning the award we both moved into a house in East London, you may have seen its pink door in some of our pictures. Our blog continued to grow and we started running workshops for brands like Converse and Cath Kidston and writing features for places like the Liberty Craft Blog, you can see everyone we’ve worked with in more detail on our Press page. When we officially turned 1 we also held our blog birthday event with Liberty – a pretty big deal for two of the biggest Liberty print fans on the planet!

Since then we’ve run craft workshops at festivals (Bestival was our fave!), started appearing on TV, developed our own line of products and won an award for entrepreneurship from UCL. We’re also super lucky as we now get to work full time together on the blog and business from a shared workspace near Kings Cross. We’re really proud of everything we’ve achieved in the past few years and so excited for everything we have planned next!
