Favourite Craft Shops – Support Local!

Happy Tuesday to you all!

It’s a beautiful, sunny morning where I am – I’m hoping this weather is going to last throughout the week as H is coming to stay tomorrow! The last time we saw each other we went to Berlin and it was freezing.

We’ve got lots planned including making (and drinking) quite a few cocktails. We will be doing crafty things too and are looking forward to sharing some joint projects with you all. We definitely have to visit a couple of my local craft shops as where H lives there aren’t many good ones. Do you have any local craft shops that you love? I think they need a bit more recognition so here are two of my favourites in my hometown, Winchester.

C and H Fabrics
This small company has been trading for 80 years now and its Winchester store is my go-to shop for all things fabric

ImageSpread over three floors they have everything you can imagine from dressmaking to upholstery fabric, as well as a large selection of craft supplies, yarn and patterns – they even have a café! I spend a lot of time in here perusing the patterns and thinking up new ideas for projects. This is where I bought the yarn for my Ribbed Fingerless Mittens in the sale, and the pattern and fabric for my Simple Spring Skirt.

Creative Crafts
Winchester is home to an Art School and I know that this shop is really important to its students.

It sits on perhaps the prettiest square in the whole of Winchester, aptly named ‘The Square’, and stocks a huge range of craft and art supplies for a relatively small shop. Everything is packed in and everywhere you turn you see something else you need or another craft you want to try. They pride themselves on their staff members’ expertise and there is always someone on hand to offer you advice.

They only have one store so you’ll all have to come to Winchester to visit it… perhaps one day!

You can often get supplies cheaper online but I think it’s really important to support local, independent businesses. These stores offer something Amazon can’t – the chance to be a part of a local, creative community. That’s what matters to me, what about you? I’d love to hear about some of the stores that are important to you!

Winchester has some amazing craft and charity shops – definitely jealous! Plus it’s one of the most amazing backdrops for all things photoshoot related!
