Last Wednesday, the 5th of June, was my Dad’s AND my boyfriend’s birthday. As I’m sure many of you do, I find buying presents for boys hard so this is a bit of a double whammy. This year I decided to try and craft them something small each and came up with the idea of a little card holder.
I won a Liberty Lifestyle swatch book on twitter (best day ever) so used some of this fabric for the project. The swatch book has about 50 squares of the Bloomsbury collection prints which are beautiful! I’m hoping to make a patchwork quilt with the remaining squares so look out for updates on that in the future.
For the card holders I chose one Bloomsbury print for each and found them in contrasting colour-ways for the front and back. I simply folded each square in half, sandwiching some thin wadding between each piece. Folding the fabric in half in this way created a neat edge for the top. I then stitched two pieces together with a small seam allowance along the other three sides, leaving the top open. Turning this inside out then created the small pouch. It was then just a case of stitching a button to the front and a small loop at the back!
I love how these card holders turned out and how they can be used for lots of different things – bank cards, business cards or even something un-card related! They’re a perfect little gift for a boy OR a girl, I’m sure I’ll end up making plenty more for presents in the future!
Have you got any other clever gift ideas? I hope you’ve all had lovely crafty weekends!
