Liberty Patchwork Cushion

This is the second project to use some of the Liberty Lifestyle fabric that I won. I’ve already made a couple of small card holders using it and wanted to make something a bit bigger that would show off the prints even more. After some thinking I decided to make a patchwork cushion using the brown tone squares, it’s my Mum’s birthday today so this is for her!

Each square had a little hole punched through it from being held together as a swatch book so I had to slice a strip off each. This left me with little strips of the prints as well as larger rectangles and I decided to use both in the cushion.

I haven’t done any patchwork before (apart from my English paper piecing) but this is a small and really easy project. I didn’t even use any pins to hold the fabric in place! I simple machine sewed the patches together in their horizontal lines then sewed them all together. I used the little strips to add a border onto the top and bottom which helped to make it square for the square cushion pad I had. I think they add some interest to the cushion too!

I love these Liberty Bloomsbury prints and think a cushion is a perfect way to show them off. I’m excited to get started on a larger patchwork blanket with the rest of the fabric!

This gives more ideas for all of my pieces of fabric that I have been wandering what to do with. Cute project. Very individual.

This looks lovely. I have a HUGE box bag full of fabric off-cuts and I’ve been meaning to make patchwork cushions from them for a while, perhaps now id the time! I do like the Liberty prints you’ve won! Ann x
