Liberty Print Grainline Archer

I’ve been hoarding this pattern for months and actually printed and taped up the pdf back in September… I’m a half finisher.. I completed this in December, but only just got around to sharing it now. It was a lot of firsts for me – collar, buttonholes, yoke. I’ve been trying to push myself with my sewing and purposely picking projects that will make me try a new technique, or a new fabric and this was definitely a learning process.

The sewing blog community is full to the brim of beautiful Archers, you can’t miss them! I decided to do a short sleeved version purely because I only had 1m of this pink Hera Liberty print. It’s a mad print, isn’t it? I have another long sleeved silk version planned, I’ll share when it’s complete. This thin cotton lawn is the perfect material for an Archer, it makes such a nice, loose lightweight shirt and is so easy to work with.

A little pattern review: it’s great, the instructions are brilliant and if you have any trouble you have Jen’s sew along for extra help. I cut out a size UK 12, but I think I could size down to a 10 and still be comfy if I wanted something with a bit of a slimmer fit.

Excuse some of these photos, it was freezing out there and I’m clutching a coffee for a little bit of warmth.

Pretty shirt, I love the print. You can’t go wrong with Liberty. I’m amazed that you made this with one metre of fabric.

Thanks Camilla, took a lot of squishing in and on a more recent make this left me with an upside sleeve print doh! I think the original long sleeved version would need quite a bit more. H

Absolutely gorgeous! I just purchased the Archer pattern to make one for myself. But I would never try a first time pattern in Liberty, so I start out with some more modest fabric… Nice to know the Archer has a very loose fit. Does the pattern include seam allowences? It doesn’t say anywhere…

Yep, if I remember right it does include them. I made that error with my Maeva shirt from Republique du Chiffon, had to sew it up with tiny little seams and it’s still a bit snug :( I took the plunge right away with that Liberty, luckily it all turned out ok! H
