Oh my beautiful Golden Fleece, how I love you! This cardigan is the fastest knitting project I’ve ever completed and probably ever will. I’d started and finished it within a month, probably mostly due to the fact that it felt so bloody beautiful to knit.
The yarn is Silk Twist by Rowan and is soooo soft. I bought it from Black Sheep Wools for £15 for 10 balls and it used 8 in total. The yarn has been discontinued but you can still find it some places. I thought the colour was going to be a bit gross but it’s actually very gold and shimmery and I LOVE it.
As this was my first ever cardigan and first attempt at knitting buttonholes, I’ve also written an easy peasy buttonhole tutorial for adding buttonholes in 2 x 2 rib. Have a read of the tutorial here.
Don’t they kind of look like white chocolate milky buttons?
The pattern is Mellow from the Rowan ‘Silk Twists Classics’ book. If you’re on Ravelry I’ve put some more technical details up on there. It’s a really simple pattern and lots of people on Ravelry have made it so it’s fun to look at all of their versions.
I shortened the length quite a bit to make it good to wear with dresses and high waisted skirts. I find that most patterns are too long for me so perhaps I just have a short body. Think it turned out a perfect fit!
What have you got on your needles at the moment? I’ve just started a tiny top on 3mm needles but it’s growing so slowly I might have to start something else as well – tell me what I should be knitting!
