Please don’t judge my knitting skills on this jumper. I know it’s huge and so pink and misshapen and generally pretty offensive but I kind of love it still. Christmas is the season for questionable knitwear anyway, right?
I started knitting this sweater straight after the Knitting and Stitching show at Ally Pally. I picked up the yarn (Rowan Tumble in Bon Bon) from the Black Sheep Yarn stand so it was super cheap. They still have it up for sale on their site for only £2.99 a ball – go wild! It’s 90% alpaca and is so warm and soft, you kind of squidge it and fall in love. I bought 10 balls and have knitted two hats and this jumper and still have a couple left, bargain!
I wanted a large jumper to wear through winter but didn’t bargain for quite how large it would end up. The pattern is a freebie basic raglan sleeve sweater I found on Ravelry. It’s got some mock cable twists up the shoulder seams that I quite like but other than that it’s really basic.
I knitted it on 12mm needles and it was meant to be on 10mm – doh! I figured it wouldn’t make too much difference but it ended up being so wide that when I put my arms down it looks like I have wings growing out of my back from all the excess. Argh! Such a rookie knitter error.
Even if i’m only allowed to wear this jumper indoors and under coats I’ll love it all the same. Its my big marshmallow fluff ball of a jumper! I live on a boat now so when it eventually does get cold it can keep me snug in the evenings too.
And hey, I finished a knitting project!!
(Ps. I promise I was on a walk and I’m not just wearing wellies as a fashion statement.)
