When we saw Rachel (House of Pinheiro) at the Handmade Fair and she told us about her latest pattern collaboration with Style Arc, I knew I’d have to have a go at sewing it up. The Eliane jumpsuit has tapered legs, a cinched in waist and deep v collar neck. I’ve never worn a jumpsuit let alone sewn one so was excited to give it a go!
I was a little dubious about how good it would actually look on me but it turns out I love it. There’s nothing like wearing a full floral silk suit to make you feel sa-ssssssy.
It’s definitely not a beginner project but it was refreshing to try out some different techniques and not just use the same construction methods. The collar in particular was really fun to sew up!
I sewed the size 14 even though I’m a 12 because I wanted it to be a bit looser on the hips. The bodice is definitely a too big though so I ended up making a quick tie belt to bring the waist in more than I could have managed just with elastic. It is quite gapey around the front so i’d never be able to wear it without a cami on underneath but i’m ok with that! Perhaps if you did want to wear it alone you could pin the front shut somehow.
I also left off the pockets to keep the side zip insertion easier and to minimise any bulk on my hips although the zip does kind of stick out right on my hip, definitely the fault of my sewing.
I zoom finished it at the end so I could wear it to my friend’s party (I finished stitching 3 minutes before I had to leave for my train back to London) so it got a little bit messy but overall I think I did ok!
I’m now also a bit obsessed with Style Arc’s patterns and have a list as long as my arm of ones I want to buy. Has anyone else tried any?
