Our Summer Party is now less than two weeks away! Unusually for us we’ve stitched up our outfits in plenty of time and are now more than ready to party the night away. Have you got your ticket yet?
For my party outfit I wanted a wrap dress with ruffles and stumbled on the Style Arc Giselle pattern which seemed perfect. I made their Eliane jumpsuit before so was aware that the instructions aren’t very comprehensive but I really like their patterns. It was an absolute nightmare to print and stick though, nearly 50 pages!
The actual dress was pretty simple to sew up. I made one major mistake when stitching the ruffle onto the neckline and the seam allowance ended up on the outside of the dress. Duh. It’s covered by the ruffle though and by the time I realised it was too late so I’ve just left it. I imagine if their instructions had illustrations I wouldn’t have made the mistake but hey ho.
The fabric I chose from Stoff + Stil is a floral rayon and it’s super soft and drapey and lovely. It works really well on a ruffly dress like this. The finished dress is far too low at the front so I improvised with a safety pin. I also think the length is slightly too long on me, it makes me look a little too much like a wedding guest and not quite enough like I’m ready to party. Overall though I’m pretty happy with it!
Hannah decided on the Helga wrap playsuit from Named for her party outfit. It’s a clever design which has shorts underneath but a wrap over the front. The back is also really lovely with a semi racer back and doubled up rouleau straps. She said it was super easy to sew up and there are hardly any pieces. The rouleau straps were the fiddliest bit but they were fine to make. Hannah’s 5’7″ and it ended up a little too short for her liking but she is a couple of inches taller than their recommended pattern height. If she makes another one she’ll also lengthen the bodice as it ended up a little up-the-bum.
The navy cupro she picked from Stoff + Stil is gorgeous! Quote from Hannah “It cuts like butter and feels so slinky on the body”. It is hard to work with though as the iron leaves marks so you have to do a lot of steaming.
We can’t wait for the party and to see everyone else’s outfits! We’ve got a Best Handmade Outfit prize on the night which is being judged by Elisalex, Gabby from Gabberdashery, Elle from Sew Positivity and Kate from The Foldline. They’ve also been sharing their party outfits on instagram so go and check them out. We’ve got amazing prizes to win and lots more fun lined up so make sure you’ve got your ticket.
See you there,
Stoff + Stil kindly sponsored the fabric for our party outfits and we’ve both been genuinely so impressed with the quality. They’re very worth checking out for all kinds of fabrics.
