There’s nothing quite like a loose, breezy linen shirt on a warm day and we love this cropped style by French pattern company Republique du Chiffon. The Maeva Shirt is loose fitted with a ruffle around the waist – it’s perfect for any light to medium weight linen. We were kindly gifted some linen from the Fabrics Store and picked our favourite pale green colour, the Willow softened linen.
Make sure that you prewash your linen, it shrinks quite a bit, and give it a good press before getting started. What we love about this pattern is the little ruffle around the waist. It’s a feature that I haven’t seen on a shirt pattern before. To do this, just sew two lines of running stitches along the top of the skirt and gather the fabric until it is the same width as the shirt bottom. You want to make sure that the two side seams line up. Sew right sides together and then snip and remove your running stitches.
- If you’ve sewn shirts before then the rest of the construction will be no problem. And don’t forget, this pattern doesn’t include seam allowances!
This shirt is a great addition to any Summer wardrobe and has made us go a bit crazy for linen.

The linen for this shirt was gifted to us by the Fabrics Store, but all opinions are our own and it is truly lovely fabric!
