Can we talk about how great Tilly’s latest pattern is? The Cleo dress is a super simple and super wearable pinafore/dungaree dress that every wardrobe should include a few of. You can pick to have a mini or longer length, dungaree clips or buttons and a top centre or two hip pockets. I went for the mini pinafore version. Whaddya reckon?
I used a pink cord that I bought on Goldhawk Road, I can’t remember the exact shop it was in but loads of them had it for around £4 per metre. I also spied some black, blue, reds and other colours but this pink was the zingiest of the lot so I had to have it.
It was the quickest pattern I’ve ever cut out, there are only few pattern pieces and it took me around 10 minutes. The heavy cord doesn’t move around so I didn’t even use any pins to secure the pattern pieces to the fabric – sacrificing a little bit of precision for speed!
It’s really easy to sew up but there is a lot of top-stitching so I had to concentrate. I’m quite proud of how neat I managed to keep it though! I overlocked all of my pieces after sewing them so hopefully no fraying. I picked some gold sparkly buttons to add some extra zing to the dress, happy coincidence is that they match my nails today. Anyone else feeling ready for Christmas sparkles yet?
I’ll be wearing this dress a lot and think I might have to make up a few more in something less bold, perhaps a denim next. You can get kits to make the dresses on Tilly’s site, they come with the fabric, thread, pattern and dungaree clips which is handy. I saw some pretty yummy vanilla cord on there too that I’d love to try! Have you tried the Cleo yet?
