Here’s our list of the best shops to buy fabric online. Obviously we always prefer to get fabric in person where you can stroke everything and spend hours choosing but it’s just not always practical. Need something for this weekend’s sewing project that you can buy whilst stuck at your desk? These sites will sort you out. And, if you do want to get out and about, check out our Ultimate Guide to Fabric Shopping in London.
- 1. Girl Charlee
Our favourite place to get knit fabrics (jerseys, spandex, etc) is Girl Charlee. They only launched this year but they’ve already established themselves as the Knit Kings, stocking everything from stripes to florals and plains.
2. The Village Haberdashery
These guys have a bricks and mortar store in London but their online offering is just as great. Particularly good for patchwork and quilting fabrics.
3. The Fabric Fox
Another brilliant shop for patchwork and quilting fabrics with a huge selection of fat quarters. Curated selection which focuses on bright, modern prints. Loads of Cotton + Steel too which we love!
4. Fabric Godmother
Amazingly well curated shop with some of the best dressmaking fabrics around. Lots of ex-designer stuff (Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana etc) and really pretty jerseys. We especially love the Atelier Brunette ones!
5. Dragonfly Fabrics
Lovely collection of high quality dressmaking fabrics. Dorte who runs the shop used to work as a pattern cutter for people like Vivienne Westwood so knows how to pick the best fabrics!
6. The Fabric Store
These guys are based in LA, NZ and AUS but you get free shipping over a certain amount and their stuff is amazing! Also check them out on Instagram for loads of sewing inspiration.
7. Sew Crafty
Our lovely pal Sammy from Live It Love It Make It runs this shop and it stocks loads of great crafting supplies and fabric. Check out their sewing related pins too!
8. Maud’s Fabric Finds
Maud is at all of the shows we go to and has established herself as the go-to place for dreamy fabrics. She stocks lots of European fabric designers, we really love Belgian designer See You At Six’s rayons.
9. Til The Sun Goes Down
Specialising in vintage (1920s-1960s) and one-off pieces you can find some really amazing fabrics on this site.
10. Ditto Fabrics
Great selection of quality dressmaking fabrics with some ex-designer and lots of classics. You can also visit their shop in Brighton.
We hope you have lots of online fabric shopping success! Any others we’ve forgotten? Let us know in the comments.
