The class will take place in our shop just around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 10 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations.
CLASS OVERVIEW
In this five day course you will learn how to tailor your own bespoke jacket. Level-up your sewing skills and learn the skills used by couture tailors. During the class you will draft and toile your own jacket, sampling a variety of couture stitches as you go. This advanced workshop will be an in-depth introduction to bespoke tailoring, you will leave with the pattern you drafted and your finished jacket.
WHAT WILL THIS CLASS COVER?
+ How to draft a pattern from your own measurements
+ How to strike a pattern onto fabric using bespoke methods
+ How to canvass and make a fully canvased forepart (the front of your jacket!)
+ Sewing patch pockets through canvas
+ How to use shoulder pads and sleeve head roll to properly structure sleeves
+ How to construct and attach collars using canvas and melton
+ How to fit and transfer changes on to your pattern
+ How to line garments using traditional bespoke methods
+ How to hand finish garments including hand button holes
This is a practical class and you will create a bespoke pattern and finished toile of your jacket.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for advanced sewists. This is a fast paced class, covering a range of techniques, so you may need to complete some hand sewing at home in the evenings of the course. You need to be confident in making alterations to patterns and setting in sleeves. You will finish the workshop with a range of advanced tailoring techniques that will level up your sewing skills!
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our Pfaff Ambition 630 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Instructions to take home with you
+ Hands on help to create your pattern pieces
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+ Fabric for toiling your jacket and matching thread for your jacket. We can advise you on what fabrics will work best and you'll be sent through a full list of requirements before the course starts. We have thread available to buy in the studio if you need some on the day.
