The workshop will take place in our workshop space just around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 10 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations.
PROJECT
Our Everyday Dress is the ultimate throw-on-and-go dress. Fitted on the shoulders then loose through the waist, this pattern is the ultimate comfortable, stylish everyday style. In this full day class you'll sew up your own beautiful dress and come away with the skills to tackle lots more dressmaking projects at home. Students will be sent the paper pattern ahead of the class to cut out their pattern before the class.
WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
If you've got the hang of using your sewing machine, have used a paper pattern before and want to sew a beautiful dress, this class is for you! Suitable for beginner/intermediate sewists, the class will cover:
+ How to measure your body and pick a size
+ How to cut and trace pattern pieces
+ How to cut your fabric and make all necessary markings
+ How to cut fabric pieces on the grain/bias
+ How to finish your raw edges
+ How to sew gathers
+ How to make and sew a bias facing
+ How to hem
+ How to finish a neckline
+ How to create a ruffle
The skills learnt in this one day class will prepare you to tackle other sewing patterns at home.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for beginner/intermediate sewists. Anyone who feels confident using a sewing machine and has used a paper pattern before. If you're a more experienced sewist it'll still be a fun day of sewing a beautiful dress and you're welcome to join! If you haven't used a paper pattern before we recommend taking our
Learn to Sew Clothes class first.
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our Pfaff Expression 710 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Fusible interfacing
+ A full paper pattern for you to keep and reuse
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+Their pre-cut pattern. To save time in class we'll send all students their patterns before the class to cut their size. If you need any help picking a size we can help you with that!
+ Fabric (4-4.5m depending on size) and matching thread for your dress. Lawn, crepe de chine and cottons work well. We can advise you on what fabrics will work best and you'll be sent through a full list of requirements before the course starts.
WHERE?
The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
