CLASS OVERVIEW
We're so excited to be welcoming Elisalex back into the studio! In this one day class you will learn how to draft a beautiful prairie dress using your own measurements. Following the pattern in her brand new book, ‘Made to Measure,’ (published October 19th) Elisalex of By Hand London, will cover everything from taking your measurements to drafting up your dress to fit your unique measurements. You will be able to use the skills you learn in the class to tackle a variety of draft-it-yourself projects at home to make your own dream wardrobe!
WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?
+ How to correctly take your measurements
+ How to use these measurements to draft your own pattern
+ How to make adaptations to make the pattern your own
+ Advice on how to start sewing up your dress
In the class, we will mainly focus on drafting your pattern. In the afternoon there should be time to start cutting and sewing, and you can take away your project to finish at home.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is for confident beginners who have previous experience working from a sewing pattern, and have already made a few garments.
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Use of our Pfaff Ambition 630 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Instructions to take home with you
+ Hands on help to create your pattern pieces
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:
+ Students will need a copy of the Made to Measure book. This can be ordered in advance, or bought on the day. Elisalex will of course be happy to sign copies too! If you are planning to buy the book on the day, please let us know so that we can have enough copies available. You will also need to bring enough fabric for your dress. This can be purchased in the studio on the day, or we will be in touch ahead of the class with fabric requirements. You might like to also bring a notepad to take notes.
WHERE?
The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.
