PROJECT

Do you want to learn how to self draft the ultimate floaty summer dress? Shirred dresses are the perfect look for summer and are a great introduction to self drafting. During the class, you will transform a series of rectangles into a perfect floaty summer look. You’ll learn how to sew shirring including how to set up your machines for shirring and how to get the tension just right. The dress is finished off with a self drafted sleeve for the ultimate romantic dress!

WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?

This class is suitable for confident beginners who want to learn how to sew shirring, the class will cover:

+ How to measure your body and create your own pattern
+ How to cut pattern pieces
+ How to sew shirring, including setting up the machine and setting the right tension
+ How to construct a sleeve full sleeve

The skills learnt in this one day class will prepare you to tackle other sewing patterns at home.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for confident beginner sewists. Anyone who feels confident using a sewing machine and made basic garments before. If you're a more experienced sewist it'll still be a fun day of sewing a beautiful dress and you're welcome to join!

CLASS INCLUDES:

+ Use of our Pfaff Ambition 630 sewing machines in the classes. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment
+ Instructions to take home with you
+ Hands on help to create your pattern pieces
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

+ Fabric (1.5-4m depending on size). Your fabric must have a check or stripe pattern. This is to speed up the shirring process and make sure you can complete your dress in this one day class
+ A few spools of shirring elastic
+ Matching thread for your dress
To hold the gathers of the shirring, we recommend you use cotton or linen, if you are an experienced sewist you might want to try using a more structured fabric like taffeta. Drapey fabrics such as silk won’t hold the gathers so well. We can advise you on what fabrics will work best and you'll be sent through a full list of requirements before the course starts. We have thread available to buy (but not shirring elastic) in the studio if you need some on the day.

WHERE?

The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet.

WHAT DO PAST STUDENTS SAY?
