This ex-designer fabric is a nylon moiré. Moiré is a finish that is typically applied to ribbed fabric such as a grosgrain that creates a watermark pattern. The finish is created through a process called calendaring, where fabric is passed through rollers are high pressures and temperatures. With moiré, the rollers cause the ribs of the grosgrain to be compressed in different places which creates the unique pattern. This fabric has a moiré jacquard weave, rather than the typical machine compression. It has a lovely structured drape and a bright sateen shine. Light to medium weight with a slinky, smooth handle. Such a special cloth! Would make a stunning LBD!
