Studio + Shop
We are a sewing workshop studio and online deadstock fabric shop based in Hackney, East London. We run a wide range of specialist sewing workshops alongside beginner classes, have a look at our upcoming schedule here to book. All of the fabric we sell is deadstock, sourced directly from designers. This fabric is all leftover after they've finished creating their collections and would otherwise go to waste. We also stock deadstock haberdashery items from the same designers. In all of our classes we use PFAFF machines and sell the whole PFAFF machine range, you can shop those here.
Set up and run by Hannah and Rosie in 2013, we now also have a wonderful team who help us to keep everything running smoothly. These are all of the faces behind the business.
Hannah + Rosie
We're the founders of the business and still head everything up now. Friends since school, we both live on boats in London and are keen sewists. When we're not sewing you'll find Rosie with her family cycling around East London and Hannah on long dog walks with her dog Twigs.
Ellie is our fabric sorting and packing queen and teaches a few of our workshops too. She's a brilliant sewist and designer who studied fashion at Central St Martin's and now has her own menswear label. Ellie also lives on a boat so when she's not knee-deep in fabric in the studio you'll find her cruising around the London waterways.
Jordan is the other half of our order packing team. She's currently writing her Master's dissertation on 18th century quilted waistcoats and has a serious eye for all things vintage clothing, we love hearing the stories of the outfits she wears. Perhaps it's not surprising considering she comes from Brighton, England's vintage capital!
Super organised and efficient, Gemma helps us to keep everything in the studio running like clockwork. If you've ever got a problem or query with an order you'll probably be chatting to Gemma to get it sorted. Also a keen sewist and often brightening the studio with her handmade clothes, she actually studied Textile Design at Chelsea so has an eye for beautiful prints.
Maryam is our wonderful workshop assistant, making sure that any class you comes to runs smoothly. From making teas and coffees to fixing machine problems, if you come to a workshop you'll probably see Maryam buzzing around sorting everything out! She's just finished a Masters degree at Cambridge in Gender Studies and lives in West London with her Saudi-British family.
We also have guest teachers who teach some of our specialist classes. Elisalex @elisalex from By Hand London teaches the Bodice Fitting Masterclass and Heather Lou @heatherlou of Closet Core Patterns regularly flies over from Canada (pandemic-permitting!) to teach Jeans Making classes. Kate @projectpatterns is our resident pattern cutting teacher and expert - she's been a pattern cutter for lots of designers and even Topshop in the past. We occasionally host other teachers for one-off classes too.
If you'd like to join our team keep an eye on our Jobs page where we post all available positions.
