The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. It's a dedicated workshop space at the back of our fabric shop, nice and peaceful for sewing but you can still feel a part of the buzz of the shop. The space is fully accessible, at ground level with no steps. We also have a large accessible toilet.
PROJECT:
The perfect sewing class to get you ready for Summer, our Learn to Sew Swimwear class will take you through the construction of the
Cottesloe Swimsuit by Megan Nielsen
. The pattern is available in UK size 0-34 (waist 61cm-132cm), if you think you fall outside of these sizes drop us a message and we'll have the pattern adjusted to fit. You'll learn all the basic techniques for sewing with stretch fabrics and can apply what you've learnt to all swimwear patterns. The pattern has a few different variations with a bikini and swimsuit option, you'll be able to choose whichever option you'd like.
STUDENTS WILL LEARN:
+ Cutting, marking and sewing stretch fabrics
+ Finishing seams and edges
+ Applying elastic
+ Basic fit adjustments
*lots of the techniques learnt in this class can be applied to other stretch fabric projects, such as activewear and lingerie!*
CLASS INCLUDES:
+ Elastic. We have white and black. If you'd like a specific colour please bring it with you.
+ Use of all tools including our PFAFF Ambition 365 sewing machines. If you'd prefer to bring your own machine then that is absolutely fine!
STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:
+ 1m of swimwear fabric: Spandex with four-way stretch. Needs to have 50% stretch on crosswise grain and good recovery, usually contains a minimum 10% Spandex/lycra. Check out our current swimwear fabrics

+ 1m swimsuit lining or you can choose to use the same as your outer fabric for this.
+ Polyester thread (we have lots for sale in the shop too that you can by on the day)
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is suitable for anyone with some experience of using a sewing pattern. You do not need experience sewing stretch fabrics.
