The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. It's a dedicated workshop space at the back of our fabric shop, nice and peaceful for sewing but you can still feel a part of the buzz of the shop. The space is fully accessible, at ground level with no steps. We also have a large accessible toilet. 

CLASS OVERVIEW

Wool is a great fabric to use for luxe everyday essentials. It’s breathable, durable and flexible, making it perfect for everything from a tailored skirt, to a suit or a coat. We love to sew with wool and we want to share how satisfying it can be! Let us demystify working with wool, including how to press and finish wool to give you crisp lines and a perfect finish. These skills will be able to transfer into a range of projects, it’ll be a perfect introduction to techniques and tools that can be used on a range of projects, starting your wool obsession! During the class we’ll be making a Dulce Skirt by Bella Loves Patterns, a classic silhouette filled with techniques including pleats, invisible zip insertion and a bagged out lining. 

WHAT WILL THE CLASS COVER

+ What the different types of wool are, and how to select the right type for your project.

+ How to handle wool to ensure that you get a crisp, neat finish

+ How to finish wool seams

+ How you can use special equipment (like a tailors ham or a clapper) on wool fabrics

+ How to ensure darts in wool are neat

+ How to sew a blind hem

+ How to line a skirt

+ How to care for your wool garment 

This is a practical class and you will leave with a wool skirt!


CLASS INCLUDES: 

+ Use of all tools including our PFAFF Ambition 365 sewing machines. If you'd like to learn on your own machine then please do bring it along - please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
+ All tools and equipment 
+ A copy of the Dulce Skirt 
+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING:

+ 1.5-2.3m of wool fabric (depending on size) and 1-1.5m of lining fabric. Your wool should be a medium weight, lining fabrics should be a light/medium weight. We have a large range of wool suitings and linings on our website. The amount needed will depend on size and length of dress being made. You can see the fabric requirements for the Dulce Skirt here.

+ Medium weight fusible interfacing. 

+ Matching thread


WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This class is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate sewists. You need to know how to use a sewing machine, but might be sewing with wool for the first time! 

This class will use the Blair skirt pattern, this includes a size range of 6 to 22 UK,  34 to 50 EU,  2 to 18 US.  If you fall outside of this size range, please get in touch with us.
