The workshop will take place in our shop just around the corner from Broadway Market. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 10 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations.  

CLASS OVERVIEW

Take your drafting skills to the next level and learn how to adapt a basic skirt block into four styles.  In this class you will use a basic skirt block to draft four different styles of skirt: a classic A-line, a skirt with frills, godets and yokes. The skills that you’ll learn in this class will teach you how to create the skirt pattern of your dreams, as well as loads of tips and tricks that you can use for drafting a variety of garments.


WHAT WILL THIS COURSE COVER?


+ What is a pattern block and how to adapt the basic skirt block to create something completely new

+ How to use a half scale block to practice drafting

+ How to draft: an A-line skirt, a skirt with frills, godets and yokes

+ How to rotate a dart

+ How to convert darts into a seam

+ How to add volume using slash and spread 

This is a practical class and you will leave with a set of half scale patterns!


WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?


This class is suitable for intermediate sewists. You should be confident using a sewing machine and making garments. You don't need to have any previous pattern cutting experience although.

+ Drinks and sweet treats to keep you going throughout the class.

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:


Yourselves! During the class we will create versions of these patterns with half scale blocks and pattern paper. We will provide the paper, rulers, and everything else you need (including tea and biscuits!). We’ll also have samples of all the techniques so you can see what they will look like when they are made up. You might want to bring a notepad to take notes.

WHERE? 


The workshop will take place in our studio around the corner from Broadway Market. We have a dedicated workshop room at the back where you can sew in peace and still see the hustle and bustle of the shop. It's about 15 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, 5 minutes from London Fields and Cambridge Heath Overground stations. The studio is at ground floor level with no steps. It is fully accessible and has a fully accessible toilet. 


WHO'S TEACHING THE CLASS?

 This class will be taught by Kate, aka Project Patterns. An extremely experience pattern cutter, Kate has created patterns for countless high-end and high street brands and now also teaches pattern cutting through her online and in-person workshops.
